What is slow fashion?

Slow Fashion is better for the environment (and the people who work the land) than conventional fashion because it uses, among other things: more sustainable raw materials such as organic cotton (no use of chemical pesticides), bamboo (no pesticides/requires little irrigation), and Tencel/Lycocell.

There are various certifications for the raw materials mentioned. One of the best-known is the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification for organic cotton and other organically grown fibers used as raw materials for textiles.

Other production practices employed by Slow Fashion brands include: recycling (e.g., using old plastic bottles as a base material for jeans), reducing or offsetting CO2 emissions from factories, using dyes that are not harmful to the environment, preventing animal suffering, and using alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power.
