The ultimate care guide for your O My Bag bag.
We understand how important it is to take good care of your bag so that it lasts for years. That's why we've put together a comprehensive care guide in this blog. This guide will help you know exactly how to keep your O My Bag bag in top condition.
In our collection we have bags made of classic leather and Vegan Uppeal™.
Maintaining your bag from O My Bag Vegan Uppeal™
O My Bag Vegan Uppeal™ consists of up to 21% residual apple peels, stems and fibers, combined with a blend of synthetic materials that provide strength and durability.
Thanks to the unique composition of our Vegan Uppeal™ material, treatment with leather protectors or moisturizers is not necessary. Vegan Uppeal™ is strong and low maintenance. It will last a lifetime without any special treatment. Never use a leather protector or moisturizer as it may damage your bag and the damage may be irreparable.
Maintaining classic O MY BAG leather
Classic leather bags have two different origins. The original classic leather comes from Kolkata, India. The second classic leather is the vegetable-tanned Vachetta leather from Tuscany, Italy. Both natural leathers are characterized by a satin shine and a smooth, soft texture.
Classic leather will change color over time due to exposure to the elements. Some light marks may occur, especially in areas that are often touched (for example, around the flap or near the fittings). Fortunately, a special leather cleaner on a cloth can work like magic on classic leather. In addition, for overall protection, we recommend using a high-quality leather spray every 6-8 weeks, especially if your bag is regularly exposed to heavy rain or intense sunlight.
Tips & tricks:
- Leather is a living and natural material. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid moisture or rain. Any small air bubbles created by moisture will fade by themselves.
- Use natural drying methods. Do not use heat to dry your O My Bag. Let it dry naturally, away from radiators. Direct heat will dry out the leather.
- When using leather treatments, it is wise to test the product on an inconspicuous part of your bag first before applying it to the entire bag.
- When not in use, store your bag in its original dust bag, in a dry place and protect it from changes in temperature.
Additional tips for certain stains:
Pen marks:
Removing pen marks is one of the most difficult stains to remove from leather. If you have accidentally marked your bag with a pen, it is important to act quickly to remove the stain. Use leather lotion immediately and gently rub the stain, but keep in mind that there is always a risk of the ink spreading, especially if the bag is new and hasn't been worn much. Another method you can try is to use a pen eraser (usually the blue part of an eraser) to gently rub the leather, which may be able to remove the stain.
Water:
Did your water bottle leak into your bag and leave a nasty water stain? Try a special leather cleaner for water streaks. Using a cloth, apply a small amount of cleaner to the area and rub slowly in circular motions. Try spreading the product evenly over that part of the bag and then let it dry naturally.
Olive oil:
To remove olive oil stains quickly, mix olive oil and water and apply this mixture evenly to the entire bag or leather item. This will blur and dilute the edges of the stain. Note that the leather may darken slightly, but the stain will be less visible. Use a small amount and add more if necessary. The leather will darken over time, eventually fading the stain.
Color differences:
If your light bag darkens in areas where it comes in contact with your clothing, we recommend cleaning these areas with a special leather cleaner. Use a cloth to apply a small amount of cleaner to the area and rub slowly in circular motions. Spread the cleaner evenly over that part of the bag and then let it air dry. Afterwards, apply an appropriate leather lotion for moisturization.
(Always refer to the instructions of your personal care products).
Hopefully these tips will help you optimize the use of your bag so you can enjoy it for many years to come!
