Fashion Revolution Week 2024: How to be a fashion revolutionary.
Fashion Revolution Week is an annual campaign that brings together the world's largest fashion activist movement for seven action-packed days. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, this year Fashion Revolution Week consists of ten days of activism!
April 24 is Fashion Revolution Day.
On this date in 2013, the Rana Plaza building collapsed. This was a garment factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh that killed 1,133 workers and injured another 2,500. This was the deadliest disaster in the history of the fashion industry. It was known that the Rana Plaza building was built under poor conditions with poor quality materials, yet the factory remained very active until the deadly collapse.
To remember this day, Fashion Revolution Week encourages people to ask their favorite clothing brands, "Who made my clothes?" through the hashtag #WhoMadeMyClothes. The goal is to create more transparency in the fashion industry, to expose the poor conditions in which clothes are made.
The theme of Fashion Revolution Week 2024 is how to be a fashion revolutionary. The theme invites people to participate in Fashion Revolution Week in many ways. Transforming the fashion industry is not done overnight. It takes many people, approaches and perspectives to get there, including yours! You don't have to do everything, but it is imperative that everyone does something, no matter how big or small.
How can you too become a fashion revolutionary?
Below we have listed a few tips & tricks for you:
1. Shop sustainable and fair fashion.
The fashion you find at Sophie Stone is made in a good way. That means under good conditions for the people who make the fabrics and clothes. This means that, among other things, they are paid a fair wage, work in safe conditions and that there is no child labor.
2. Repair your old and broken clothes.
Repairing your old and broken clothes gives them a second life. In cooperation with Mended, you can bring your old and broken clothes to us. We will then make sure your garment is as good as new again.
3. Go to a Fashion Revolution Week event.
Be inspired by people's stories and experiences about the improvements that have taken place but also the issues that still need more attention.
4. Tell your family and friends about Fashion Revolution Week.
Inspire those around you to also become part of Fashion Revolution Day/Week and in this way make a difference in today's fashion industry.
