What is Lenzing ECOVERO™?
What is Lenzing ECOVERO™?
Lenzing ECOVERO™ is the sustainable version of viscose. In terms of look and feel, it is similar to the materials Tencel and Lyocell. Unlike viscose, the production of Lenzing ECOVERO™ is carried out in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The resulting Lenzing ECOVERO™ material has the lightness, luster and comfortable wearability of viscose, but with a significantly less environmentally damaging production process.
How is Lenzing ECOVERO™ made?
Lenzing ECOVERO™ is made from wood pulp from trees from naturally grown, renewable and FSC or PEFC certified forests. These trees grow in Europe and the pulp is produced in Austria. The company that makes the ECOVERO™ material is Lenzing AG. They are focused on maximum sustainability and this is reflected, among other things, in the "closed-loop" production process. Here, the chemicals used to dissolve the wood into pulp are reused over and over again. In addition, the bleaching of the pulp is done 100% chlorine-free and compared to the production of viscose, there are 50% fewer emissions and only half the amount of water and energy is used.
Where does ECOVERO™ come from?
Lenzing AG, the company that manufactures EcoVero, is located in Austria. This is a favourable location for two main reasons:
- The wood, which comes from Europe, does not have to be transported to another continent for the production of the pulp, and this makes a huge difference to CO2 emissions.
- Rules and standards are respected and monitored better in Austria than in most other countries.
Clothing from Lenzing ECOVERO™
Clothing made from the Lenzing ECOVERO™ is similar to viscose: light, comfortable, silky, breathable and slightly shiny. In addition, it resembles the sustainable materials Tencel and lyocell, but with a very important advantage: the color fastness of EcoVero is many times better than Tencel/lyocell. As a result, clothes made from EcoVero last longer and are therefore extra durable.
