How we are working with you to reduce our impact on the planet

At Sophie Stone, we offer a selection of sustainable clothing brands, all contributing to a fair, sustainable and innovative clothing industry. Making 100% sustainable clothing would be nice, of course, but this is not going to happen. Every new product made will have a negative impact on our planet. However, our brands and we do our best to reduce this impact as much as possible. In this way, together we ensure that we respect people, animals and the environment.

From the moment all new items arrive in our warehouse to the moment the orders are delivered to our customers, we try to make all our choices in a conscious and as sustainable way as possible. Sustainable Sophie Stone packages

Every day, all Sophie Stone orders are lovingly packed. Besides doing this with care and attention, we also consciously use packaging materials that are as sustainable as possible. After all, we want to deliver sustainable clothing in the most sustainable way possible. This is what we do:

  • 100% recycled shipping bags

The shipping bags we use are made from 100% recycled plastic products such as single use plastic bags and/or bottles. This plastic is processed into shipping bags at a recycling plant. In doing so, we double the original life of single use plastic. If a customer wants to return an order we even triple it. This is because the shipping bags have a convenient second adhesive strip that allows the shipping bag to be reused for a return. Even if you keep our order, you can keep the bag to return something else in. Would you rather get rid of it? Then throw it away in the residual waste container.

  • Shipping boxes made of grass cardboard
In addition to recycled shipping bags, at Sophie Stone we use mailbox boxes made of grass cardboard. This is an eco-friendly alternative to cardboard. Grass cardboard is made from freshly cut, sun-dried grass. The fibers from this renewable resource are great for producing sturdy cardboard. The difference with regular cardboard is that CO2 emissions during production are 50% lower. The use of water and chemicals is 65% lower and 30% less energy is consumed. Due to the special structure, you can clearly see the green grass fiber. As a result, the mailbox has a light green-gray color. The mailbox is extremely suitable for web shops, mail order companies and mail rooms.
  • Durable stickers

We chose stickers made from paperwise. This is an environmentally friendly material that consists of 100% agricultural waste. As a result, no trees need to be cut down during production. In addition, the stickers are also biodegradable thanks to the compostable glue: BioTAK®.

  • Reuse of cardboard boxes

We like to reuse and recycle boxes until we really can't anymore. Therefore, some customers receive slightly less beautiful, previously used box. Of course only if the contents can be delivered to the customer undamaged. Sophie Stone recycles not only boxes returned by customers, but also other boxes received from our suppliers, for example. In this way, we try to minimize single-use cardboard.

Positive impact through collaborations & donations

Sophie Stone collaborates with other sustainable organizations to make as much positive impact as possible. We do this by giving lectures and information on the fashion industry and sustainable fashion but also by donating to charities.

November 2022, Vocational Market Soest - Educated school students about the impact of the garment industry and sparked interest in a career in sustainable fashion. 

November 2022, Warm Friday - 80 (new) garments donated to the Clothing Bank in Utrecht.

Not only is Sophie Stone making a positive impact in the fashion industry, you too can play a big part in this. A sustainable, fair and innovative clothing industry. What fashion lover doesn't want this? Chances are you want to contribute to this, but aren't quite sure how yet.   1. Durable fabrics

All of Sophie Stone's items are made from sustainable fabrics and materials. There are many beautiful sustainable materials suitable for clothing production, and often they have many advantages. For example, we have materials that are preserved such as organic cotton instead of conventional cotton or recycled polyester instead of polyester. But also entirely new innovative materials such as EcoVero™, Tencel™ and vegan microfibre 'leather. All these materials use less water, fewer or no chemicals and less CO2 emissions.   1. Fair production

All clothing at Sophie Stone is produced fairly, often in countries close to home. The ateliers are regularly visited by the brands and must meet strict requirements. There are also labels such as the SA8000 label and Fairtrade label that can prove that the studios have safe, healthy workplaces and good working conditions for the workers. But if a brand does not have these labels, it does not mean that fair production is not taking place. These certificates cost a lot of money and young brands often do not have this budget (yet). It is important that a company is transparent about their production and can demonstrate this to us. We will find all this out for you!

At Sophie Stone, we don't play on fast-paced trends, but have a selection of timeless items chosen with love and care. Made of durable high quality. By choosing timeless items, you prevent clothes from quickly going out of fashion and ending up in the back of your closet.
