It is best to wash your Bufandy scarf as little as possible. This way you ensure that the scarf remains beautiful and soft. But sometimes you can't avoid it and want to wash it anyway. It takes some time to maintain the extreme softness and lightness of alpaca products after a wash, but we've listed the most important tips for you:

Tips:

  • Wash the scarf by hand or in a wool wash program on a low temperature
  • Use very little detergent and no fabric softener
  • Wash the scarf alone or with similar colors
  • Let the scarf air dry or very briefly tumble dry on a low setting to maintain the airiness of the scarf
  • Steaming the scarf is also a recommended option
  • Finally, for the perfect finish: brush with a soft, fine-haired brush in the direction of the alpaca hairs. Then iron the scarf at low temperature (max. 110 degrees) in the same direction

Material

Bufandy scarves are made of a blend of 80% alpaca wool and 20% acrylic. This acrylic is mainly added to strengthen the yarn. Also, the acrylic ensures that the scarf gives off less when in use. These two aspects ensure that the Bufandy scarves last longer and are durable.

Herring

Because of the handwork used, the alpaca scarves have a special "brushed" texture that gives the scarf its super soft touch. The downside to this technique is that the scarf will shed a bit the first few times you wear it. Obviously, this will be more visible with bright colors on dark coats, and visa versa. Also, the combination of materials can be a trigger for the scarf to lose more hair. This is not permanent and stops after a few wears. Especially when combined with other wool products, this can be a bit worse.
