What is FSC viscose?
FSC Viscose
Viscose is one of the most widely used materials in the fashion industry. The fabric is made of bamboo or wood pulp. Viscose is very soft and has a luxurious feel. Less water is needed to produce viscose than conventional cotton and the fabric is therefore considered more sustainable.
Unlike FSC viscose, the bamboo used in ordinary viscose comes from unsustainable forestry and a chemical solvent is used to soften the viscose. This agent is not treated in a closed-loop system and can therefore be released into the environment.
FSC
FSC viscose is a more sustainable variant of viscose. FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council and viscose with this label comes from sustainably managed forests. Wood from sustainably managed forests can be used without damaging the biodiversity of the forest from which it comes. There are various criteria that a forest must meet to be labelled as sustainable. The starting point for these forests is that they are selectively cut and that as much flora and fauna as possible is preserved.
Clothing made from FSC viscose
Clothing made of FSC viscose has many advantages. Viscose is a soft and supple fabric that is also very suitable for hot weather because the material breathes well. However, viscose is a wrinkle-prone fabric and thus requires light maintenance.
