What is REFIBRA ?

In the Sophie Stone collection you will find the material REFIBRA. REFIBRA is a sustainable form of lyocell and is made from wood pulp, obtained from sustainably managed forests, and recycled cotton scraps left over during clothing production, for example. By using fewer new raw materials, you reduce the ecological impact. What is left over from one process becomes input for another, so it keeps circulating. REFIBRA-technology provides a second life for pre-consumer cotton waste from garment production.

The closed loop production process of REFIBRA is similar to the process at Tencel, using no toxic solvents and using energy sparingly.

 Advantages of REFIBRA
  • Sustainably managed forests

Tencel Lyocell fibers with REFIBRA-technology are produced from a blend of wood pulp from sustainably managed forests and up to one-third pulp cotton residues. Because both raw materials come from plant sources, the resulting fibers are 100% biobased.

  • 95% less water use

Using the closed loop manufacturing process, Tencel Lyocell fibers are produced using REFIBRA-technology. This uses 95% less water to produce conventional cotton and has high resource efficiency and low environmental impact.

  • Compostable and biodegradable.

The discarding of unwanted garments is also addressed. The tencel lyocell fabrics in combination with refibra are fully compostable and biodegradable, The products made from this material can be completely returned to nature.

Features of REFIBRA

  • Fine for the skin

REFIBRA combined with Tencel creates a fine soft fabric that is also suitable for sensitive skin.

  • Moisture control

Tencel Lyocell fibres absorb moisture more efficiently than cotton and support the body's natural heat regulation.

  • Power

Tencel Lyocell fibres are very strong, durable and deliver long-lasting quality.
