What is organic linen?

Linen is made from flax, one of the oldest plants in the world. Organic linen, as opposed to conventional linen, is grown without the use of pesticides, fertilisers and genetically modified seeds. In addition, most flax is grown in Europe, where it is thoroughly monitored for compliance with environmental and social guidelines. The linen items from the Sophie Stone collection carry the GOTS label

Organic linen clothing

Clothing made of organic linen is soft and lightweight, long-lasting (it is stronger than cotton) and relatively resistant to dirt. Moreover, it is absorbent and wicks moisture away from the body, making it ideal for summer! Linen has a characteristic look due to the 'slubs' in the material: small thickening in the fabric.

(Biological) linen washing

Since linen can crease a lot, preferably wash it in a half-full washing machine. Wash at 30oC on a programme that soaks, rinses and spins briefly. Take your linen clothes out of the drum as soon as the washing machine is done and let them dry on a clothesline. You can iron it if it is still damp.

Organic linen clothing at Sophie Stone

At Sophie Stone, we consciously choose (organic) linen. We do our best to select the most beautiful, honest clothing brands for you. For us, the most important thing is that clothes are produced under the right conditions, without the use of children's hands. We think this should go without saying. A garment cannot be 100% sustainable. That is why we choose slow fashion brands that consciously think about how they can make their production process more sustainable. Every season we see progress in our favorite slow fashion brands, and encourage their sustainability process!

If you enjoy wearing linen clothing, we recommend our slow fashion brand Jan 'n June, among others. They regularly make items from linen. Here shop all items in our collection made of organic linen.
